What Programming Language Is Best to Learn First?

Hi,
I'm really interested in programming, and I would like to have an idea on the basic things one should learn before actually delving deep into the programming world.
Which is the best language to learn first, and is there any site that teaches it to you?
I know the basic website programming (HTML, CSS, Using Photoshop to make templates), but I would like to learn programming.

If you would like to learn desktop programming start it with C.
Else if you would like to learn web programming you can learn php or asp.

I like C/C++. With the correct tools it would probably work with databases (not sure though). The syntax is real easy to learn. I've been writing apps in it for over 3 years and still haven't totally mastered its versatility. Since it compiles to native machine code, it executes fast and doesn't require the .NET Framework (unless you use C++ with Visual Studio Express).

I have first selected a JAVA language because JAVA is a programing language and is also used in gaming software.JAVA is a one type of package.So i first select a JAVA Language.

It really depends on what you want to accomplish. I started with Actionscript (Flash) because I saw something I wanted to recreate and it just exploded from there. Actionscript has come a long way. And with Flex and now AIR, it keeps getting better.
